Kip Ewing was kind enough to take this nice photo, if you zoom in on the upper right you will see an image of Lil'John Buttera. If the "Devil is in the details" (one of the all time used and abused design quotes) then for me that would make John an excellent judge and jury on hot rod details. I was fortunate to meet John when I was working on Cadzzilla in 89 and years later visit him at his garage.
I have several references files that serve as inspiration during the design process, one of those is just on Lil'John's work. The file goes back to the drag cars, covers all the hot rods and has every one of the articles he did with Gray Baskerville. The Baskerville articles were shot in John's garage probably the same one as in this shot from the internet. If you click on this image and zoom in on the area above the clock, you will see a section of model railway track. Those vertical supports are unique milled aluminum brackets and there are dozens and dozens of them, it runs all over the place. The poster in my garage is from the 75th anniversary of the 32 Ford, in all those hot rods, the ones that John contributed to stood apart due in part to how he handled the details.
