I spent the day at the Detroit Institute of Arts and in fine gear head tradition I found a Flathead to inspire me. The Diego Rivera mural was funded by Edsel Ford and has as a subject the Ford Rouge plant and it's workers in 1932/1933. The mural was a very controversial piece when it premiered, it contained art, naked women, lots of welders and car making equipment circa 1932. These are all things that some how offended "decent citizens " circa 1933 but are very endearing and even exciting to "hot rodders" circa whenever, what I did not know is that when the murals were threatened by the miss guided "decent citizens" part of the efforts to protect them was a constituent of auto workers. I just think the idea of those Ford boys watching over that fantastic mural is a wonderful thing.
