It's gotta have soul

Meet Roman, Roman and I are part of Rivian Automotive and by part I mean we more than just work there, we help to make it what it is. One of the things I really like about Rivian is that there is a strong sense of the practicle. In 30 years of automotive work you see so much waste of used materials that you know would be of great use in making something else, but because the mechanisims to find the next purpose for the material are more work than buying new they often end up in a dumpster.
Rivian doesn't work that way.
Roman is standing next to a wonderful assemblage of primo steel that had a former life as an exhaust system jig. RJ the man behind Rivian hangs on to anything that seems to possess usefulness, this jig fell into that catagory. The roadster needs some low down ballast and that was enough of a reason for RJ.
I love a car with a story and some of the greatest hot rods could be a book. Motor from one source, trans another and everything else from some place else. That story that is unique to each hot rod, I believe is a big part of giving a hot rod it's soul. The cars I admire most the Sadd, Teague & Bentley, Set Hammond's Lakester and many more have great stories. The used part has value beyond it's mechanical function it forms part of the story. The Bonneville Roadster will have lots of stories from many sources including one about the floor that once was a jig.
